About Gāna Vinyāsa
Gāna Vinyāsa is a heartfelt initiative by Vidushi Smt. Gayathri Venkataraghavan, one of India’s leading Carnatic vocalists, dedicated to nurturing the next generation of musicians, rasikas, and torchbearers of the art. The school is built on the foundation of paramparā (lineage), sāhitya bhāva (lyrical depth), and manodharma (creative expression) - staying true to tradition while embracing a learner-centric, joyful approach.
We are proud to bring together a diverse faculty of passionate, committed teachers with deep-rooted classical training and global exposure. Each faculty member shares not only technical proficiency, but also the values of humility, devotion, and a spirit of mentorship.
From early learners to advanced students, our curriculum gently evolves - along with varisais and geetams, introducing shlokas, bhajans, nottuswaras, musical math, games, and glimpses into the lives of composers at the primary level, while expanding into swarajatis, varnams, kritis, various Ragas, and voice culture techniques in the intermediate levels. Gayathri Venkataraghavan and other senior musicians will curate the lessons and interact with students to check the progress.

Note from GV
As children, my brother and I were lucky to grow up surrounded by music. My parents believed that introducing us to Arts was the greatest gift they could give. I was instantly drawn to music and dance. I still remember attending concerts at Krishna Gāna Sabha, where a kind thatha helped me identify rāgas from the back row. Legends like Pandit Bhimsen Joshi, Parveen Sultana ji, MS Amma, KVN Sir, and Mandolin Srinivas lit up the stage — these concerts were my classroom.
I was fortunate to learn from inspiring teachers: Koda Vadyar with his umbrella cues, Rajalakshmi Mami who nurtured my early passion, Smt. Padma Veeraraghavan who broadened my artistic vision, Sri A. Sundharesan Sir who deepened my reverence for Carnatic music, and the ever-generous Sri P.S. Narayanaswamy Sir.
For a first-generation musician like me, every guru, sabha, and lesson shaped my journey — from a hesitant student to a performer. This art is vast, humbling, and deeply fulfilling. Its greatest joy lies in sharing it — the culture, the stories, the nuances that make Carnatic music so rich.
At Gāna Vinyāsa, I’ve had the privilege of teaching passionate students, many of whom are now young faculty members. We've built a joyful, tradition-rooted learning space for students of all levels — the younger, the better!
Yes, there will be rules and hours of practice. But also joy, friendship, and discovery.
Together, we can create something special — one note at a time.
